This innovative examination of the mouth, gums, tongue, lips, and throat helps identify any suspicious lesions, ulcers, or tissue changes. The modern procedure helps to detect oral cancer or various precancerous conditions. Screening does not diagnose cancer. It identifies areas that may require further evaluation. We may then schedule additional tests.
Early examinations help immediately identify warning signs. Treatment in this case may be simpler. Many patients choose annual screenings. They want peace of mind and proactive care.
The screening takes only a few minutes. It involves no needles, radiation, or discomfort. We use a light or rinse to help highlight abnormal tissue. But these tools are only aids. They do not replace a thorough clinical exam.
You can tell us what you were told, what feels unclear, and what you want to understand.
We check your lips, cheeks, gums, tongue, the floor of your mouth, and the roof of your mouth. We also feel your neck and jaw for any lumps or enlarged lymph nodes.
Some patients benefit from a special fluorescent light or a toluidine blue rinse. These tools highlight suspicious areas but are not diagnostic. We will explain if they are appropriate for you.
If we see a lesion, ulcer, or discoloration that has been present for more than two weeks, we may recommend a follow‑up visit. Or we can refer you to an oral surgeon for a possible biopsy.
Regular annual screenings are recommended. If we find something that concerns us, we will explain what it means and review the options for further evaluation.
Our team will help you understand your risk and perform a compassionate screening.
